A friend of mine told me that the Ramblas area was the place to be in Barcelona ; beautiful walking area, shops, restaurants etc. Now I read a tripadvisor comment that this area turns into the red light district at night. He said there are hookers on every street corner and this is not a place he would bring his wife. Info on this area would affect greatly my choice of hotel.
Thanks in advance! It is just a too touristic area. I would not stay there in a hotel, Barcelona has more pleasant places to stay Eixample. Your friend must have meant Rambla de Catalunya in l'Eixample, parallel to the most elegant Passeig de Gracia or he was seriously mistaken.
Yet the reason why I wouldn't choose either Les Rambles to stay goes also in the line of Joan's comments: the area has become too touristy with tacky souvenir shops, outrageously expensive terraces and packed to the brim with tourists. Thanks so much! I'll investigate the Eixample area and come back with a few hotel choices to ask about. Enric M, I really like the old towns of cities; small charming hotels with stone stairs and tall narrow windows,on small streets.
I noticed you did not suggest the Barrio Gotico area, is this not a nice area? Yep, Marcia, me too That's the reason Yes, actually come to think of it, the lovely medieval areas I have stayed in have been in teeny small towns, thus once the tour buses are gone, nobody's there.
